Wab Kinew has a challenge for you!
It’s called the “Craft Reconciliation Challenge,” and it’s meant to engage students in reconciliation. "Reconciliation is in your hands," Kinew wrote in a post to students on Facebook. "You will build the future of this country."
The challenge doesn’t involve popsicle sticks, pipe cleaner, crayons, glitter or PVA glue as the title might imply for some. Instead, it involves Minecraft, with students building what reconciliation means to them with the video game.
Here’s how it works, Kinew wrote:
“A First Nations school partners with a mainstream school. Have students dialog with one another, learn about one another, research local Indigenous culture and history. Together come up with an answer to the question 'what does reconciliation look like to us?'... And then build the answer in Minecraft.”
Participants are asked to post picture of the creation on Instagram or Twitter by June 1, 2016. There are prizes involved!
