Watch Tanya Tagaq’s powerful new music video

Tanya Taqaq is a hero, a powerhouse, who made waves and history when she won the Polaris Music Prize in 2014 for her album Animism.

She’s back with a completely new track "Aorta" and an accompanying new video. According to Exclaim!, the song was created to go along with footage shot at the Emanuel Vigeland Museum in Oslo, Norway. Vigeland was a Norwegian artist who’s became known for his works and decorations in Scandinavian churches.

“This video was made to pay homage to Emanuel Vigeland, whose frescos fill his own mausoleum,” Tagaq said in a statement. “The frescos depict life from conception to death. This penetration of the unsaid philosophies of life in conjunction with the outstanding acoustics of the room has inspired my own work since visiting there in 2002. Hopefully we encapsulate the darkness and the light to his liking.”

The video is dark, powerful, eerie and at times uncomfortable. Watch it below:
