Youth from a Toronto school have given hip hop duo Mob Bounce a pretty rad new music video.
'New Sage' was produced at Toronto's West End Alternative School as part of the ReelLit Program's music video project. ReelLit, a course at West End Alternative, is an opportunity for students to study films and videos and develop filmmaking and acting skills.
"This video sends such a powerful message to young Indigenous people,” said Travis, aka Heebz The Earthchild, of Mob Bounce.
“I like how this video shows that the young people got to work collectively and help one another. The older generation can only do so much. If the youth are working together to reintroduce ceremony and cultural practice back into their lives, changes will happen!" Travis added.
“Our hope is that young people develop a sacred space for themselves and develop their own form of ceremony. Today's rights of passage are distorted and we glorify the western way of rights of passage too much. The young people need the space ceremony provides to heal and realize they are strong.”
