Robert-Falcon Ouellette hopes to bring experience and strength to representing Winnipeg Centre, one of the poorest ridings in the country

Robert-Falcon Ouellette is the new MP in Winnipeg Centre, one of the most diverse and poor ridings in the country.

Ouellette has his own rags to riches story — childhood in poverty, difficulties at school — and, even at 38, has spent years and years serving the public. His constituents are struggling and have high expectations for their new MP and what he can do for them in Ottawa.

All of this was explored on CBC Radio’s DNTO. Host Sook-Yin Lee talked to Ouellette and his constituents — visiting Parliament, talking about his childhood and his mother’s strength, meeting the people of Winnipeg Centre and learning about their concerns — for an entire episode of the radio show.

Listen to the whole episode below and check out Sook-Yin Lee's conversation with Ouellette about the politics of his braid, here.
