Anne Fontaine makes jewellery that anyone can wear with pride

Anne Fontaine is a young Innu artist from the community of Uashat mak Maliotenam in Quebec. She represents the inspiring Aboriginal women of her generation who are actively involved in their community, helping other young Aboriginals mobilize and become agents of change. In her job at the Centre d’amitié autochtone de Québec, she encourages young people to develop their full potential and recognize themselves in their cultural roots and Aboriginal identities.

Anne also loves making jewellery and fashion accessories highlighting her Aboriginal background, which young Native and non-Native women can wear with pride. Accessories have long served to redefine femininity and express a sense of style; while delicate and balanced, Anne’s creations add a bit of punch to the wearer’s personal style. Traditional symbols are updated with a touch of elegance and modern sensibility. Anne’s creations are both affordable and easily accessible.

Anne uses social media—Facebook in particular—to promote her work and inspire young Aboriginal women to become role models for their communities.

Visitors can see these creations and contact the artist to buy them on her Facebook page, Anne Fontaine: Piece of Red. Anne is a model and inspiration, exuding quiet strength among a generation of strong, engaged young Aboriginal women.
