A Tribe Called Red

A Tribe Called Red is awesome for so many reasons. The group is constantly busting myths and stereotypes, like when they were the first Aboriginal group to win the Juno Award for Breakout Artist.

They’re also not afraid to speak up against things that aren’t okay. Remember when Ian Campeau/DJ NDN wore the famous “Caucasians” t-shirt to speak out against using Redskins as a team name?

When Campeau isn’t battling racism, he’s speaking out about violence against women. This year, he spoke in Ottawa about how everyone – including women and girls – has a right to feel safe.

Campeau is tackling the safety issue through language. He compares using the “n” word to saying “bitch”, as both words are used to dehumanize certain people.

“I like Drake as much as the next guy, but it makes it really hard for me to listen to the new music coming out right now where it’s so prevalent to use these terms that are made specifically to oppress people,” he said in the video.
