Simpson discusses her performance at the Basement Revue and the context of the pieces from Islands of Decolonial Love

Leanne Simpson took to the stage on December 18, 2014 with a compelling performance at the Basement Revue show. Here, she discusses the context around her performance.

“I feel like I have a responsibility to speak out, and speak to this issue [of missing and murdered Indigenous women,]” Simpson says in the video.

“There’s a sense of urgency. I’m a mother, I have a daughter, and I don’t want her to grow up in a country where she’s targeted.”
