Dancers blend Māori culture with Beyoncé jam

A group of Māori dancers from New Zealand have put a modern twist on an old tradition.

Poi is a performance art that originated with the Māori people in New Zealand and uses tethered weights to create cool and interesting patterns. Performers often include singing and dancing in the show.

And these dancers (you can find the video here) not only look like they’re having a lot of fun, but they also crushed it with a Beyoncé tune.

Who better to dance to than the amazing Queen B, an artist who promotes feminism and the strength of women?

Who else is adding new dimensions to traditional performances, perhaps more close to home? What do you think of this approach to indigenous art?
