A new VICE documentary looks at Indigenous hip hop in Canada

Hip hop has become such an important tool, and space, for Indigenous youth to explore their experiences, histories and the issues they face daily. Artists gravitate to the music and make it their own, incorporating traditional sounds, drums and singing. But many agree: Indigenous rap doesn't get the recognition it deserves outside of its scene.

VICE's new documentary First Out Here takes a look at Indigenous hip hop in Canada and how music has become an important form of expression, and features interviews with Drezus, Winnipeg Boyz, David Strickland and T-Rhyme.
