Why CBC's New Fire should be a year-round program

Over the summer, Lisa Charleyboy brought stories of Indigenous youth to the airwaves across Canada. CBC Radio’s New Fire was a great program — covering so many topics every week, from connecting to heritage and culture, to dating and relationships to politics and the complexities of Indigenous peoples’ involvement in the political process.

It was such a critical thing to have on the radio every week, to hear our voices and to hear stories relevant to us. And Charleyboy hosted the show with aplomb. New Fire's final show was last week and is off the air for now, scheduled on CBC Radio One as a summer program. But we — and we’re sure many others — want to see the show run year-long. We have a lot of stories to tell, and CBC’s New Fire is helping to tell them.

What do you think? Should New Fire keep going for the rest of the year? Comment below and if you’re the tweeting type, tweet your thoughts with the hashtag #CBCNewFire.
