TipToenNMaJrdns rants about beauty standards

I think it’s almost impossible to grow up without feeling insecure. How can we not be, though? We are surrounded by completely unrealistic beauty standards nowadays. Don’t get me wrong, those men and women are beautiful, and I’m not here to bash anybody, but they have so much work done to them, it’s hard to tell what is real and what is not.

“Looks don’t matter” — we hear this everyday, but then we live in a generation where everything seems to completely contradict this idea. Girls in particular are put on such high pedestals to achieve the “perfect” look.

If looks don’t matter though, why do magazines use airbrush and photoshop on every model?

Why are women harming themselves because they don’t look like a Victoria's Secret model?

It’s because our society promotes a very particular body image, and it is far away from the average woman’s size 12. These “standards” are nearly impossible to reach without physically altering your body or developing unhealthy habits that can seriously harm you. One question that constantly goes through my mind is why? As incredibly cliche as this sounds, we ARE all beautiful. There is no such thing as a “perfect” human, because “perfect” can mean so many different things to so many different people. Or maybe we are all perfect, just the way we are.

I try to tell myself everyday, regardless of the number you see when you stand on the scale, or the amount of makeup you wear, YOU. ARE. BEAUTIFUL.

What do you do to fight unrealistic beauty standards?
